You've Never Heard Floor-Standing Loudspeakers Like the McIntosh XR100 System: 600 Watts of Power, Patented LD/HD Woofers Bring Feel of Live Music into Your Room

Stupendous power, mesmerizing performance, sophisticated engineering, and elegant looks combine to make the McIntosh XR100 floor-standing loudspeaker system a luxurious experience that starts with the custom cabinetry, continues all the way through the high-end parts, and culminates with soul-stirring sound that brings the feel, dimensions, and emotionalism of live music into your room.

With 600 watts of power-handling capability, the four-way XR100 tames even the acoustic challenges poised by the largest rooms. But that's just the beginning of the feats produced by this cutting-edge musical instrument. XR100 reproduces the full dynamic range of practically any musical program and plays with minuscule distortion. Imaging and soundstaging emerge with uncanny precision, depth, realism, and liveliness. The speakers can be also driven by amplifiers with a rating as high as 600W and as low as 75W. The secrets to the superior sound and control relate to XR100's outstanding woofers, drivers, tweeters, and crossover points.

Each XR100 features four patented LD/HP woofers, an advancement that significantly reduces distortion, increases efficiency, and provides deep bass even in the slim cabinet. You'll hear the first several octaves like never before, and enjoy sublime accuracy and transient response. A rear vent through the magnetic assembly leads to reference-level heat dissipation, while the die-cast basket is arrayed in a fashion that prevents displacement noise. A rigid, four-layer copper voice coil in the polypropylene cone serves as a near-perfect air piston.

No fewer than 11 upper-frequency drivers – ten two-inch midrange and one three-quarter-inch dome super tweeter, all with neodymium-iron-boron alloy magnets with highest flux density per unit of volume – benefit from a unique symmetrical midrange arrangement. In XR100, two groupings of four drivers are located above and below the single tweeter (to handle the midrange's lower two octaves) while a pair just above and below the tweeter take care of the upper two octaves. They're all aligned on a precision-machined aluminum mounting plate with a brushed champagne gold finish. You'll be wowed by widescreen horizontal dispersion, rock-solid imaging, and outrageously good balance. And because the array touts far greater capacity than a single, larger-diameter midrange, XR100 enjoys greater power handling and increased output volume in addition to reduced distortion.

XR100 also incorporates four built-in solid-state devices in the crossover network that protect the tweeters, upper and mids, and woofers. The speakers' handcrafted enclosures comprise non-parallel internal sides that reduce internal standing waves, while front-to-back and side-to-side internal braces enhance the rigidity. McIntosh's custom, non-slip bind posts allow for bi-wiring or bi-amping and might very well be the finest in the industry. And get this: The McIntosh front-panel emblem illuminates when paired with the Power Control input on a McIntosh component. What more could you want? How about transparent grilles that attach via neodymium magnets, a five-year manufacturer warranty, and a choice of three high-grade, high-gloss finishes that make XR100 a museum-quality piece.

"[This] powerful system [had an] obvious ability to play incredibly loud, go remarkably deep, produce enormous dynamic swings, and keep a tight grip on the proceedings throughout. ...Especially in terms of transparency and three-dimensionality, I haven't heard a more capable system, at least not in my room."
—Michael Fremer, Home Theater

An Unparalleled Heritage of Prestigious Craftsmanship

McIntosh has been handmaking world-class audio equipment for more than seven decades. Recognized and revered around the globe, McIntosh continues to set new standards for high-end performance, unstinting reliability, and product longevity. Its storied tradition of ingenuity, craftsmanship, pride, and service is shared by only the most iconic American brands. In an era where manufacturing shortcuts and outsourcing are the norm, McIntosh takes a no-compromise approach defined by hands-on workmanship, singular expertise, and an unabated passion for being the best in its field. These rarified characteristics set McIntosh apart. While most audio companies emulate the competition, McIntosh leads by living up to – and exceeding – its own benchmarks. That's the mark of a legend.

For Those Who Appreciates Hands-On Artistry

McIntosh's handcrafted ethic predates by more than half a century the handcrafted movement currently re-defining the beer, food, furniture, jewelry, and soap industries. From patrons of farm-to-table restaurants to fans of limited-batch beer, people increasingly realize the importance and superiority of handcrafted goods in their everyday life. Whether it's the exacting detail afforded the PC boards, the meticulous attention paid to the hand-wound transformer coils, or the innovation behind patented Power Guard circuitry, McIntosh shares in the same belief. Rather than cut corners or adhere to mass-produced construction, McIntosh only puts its name on components that deliver paragon experiences by way of their unassailable artistry and precision-minded quality. While McIntosh products don't come cheap, they stand out – and stand the test of time – in a world flooded by homogeneity and inferiority.

Aspire to Own an American Icon

McIntosh amplifiers broadcast President Lyndon Johnson's inauguration speech and powered the original Woodstock festival. Nearly 29,000 watts of McIntosh power fueled the Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound, regarded by many as the finest-sounding concert system ever devised. McIntosh has assisted in the recording of some of history's most celebrated albums, including the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. David Bowie collaborator/noted producer Tony Visconti and Dead guitarist/singer Bob Weir are among the countless McIntosh devotees. Thousands of older McIntosh components remain active in systems, having been built to last a lifetime. The history is clear: With McIntosh, you're not only considering today but planning for endless tomorrows. McIntosh is legacy audio you bequeath to future generations. The reason wish lists exists, McIntosh is the dream you aspire to own and, once you do, you cherish forever.
