Imaging, Transparency, and Soundstaging Redefine What Is Possible in Price Class: Vandersteen Model 1Ci Tower Loudspeakers Feature Tremendous Openness and Responsiveness
Springing to life when driven even with a modest amount of power and possessing an attractive 90dB sensitivity rating, the Vandersteen Model 1Ci tower loudspeaker gives cost-conscious music lovers an array of amplification choices other speakers cannot match. Graced with the openness of a panel model and full-range frequency response, this three-way overachiever specializes in tonal balance and natural presentation. Designed so that driver alignment permits a point-source wave front that optimizes phase coherence at the listening position, Model 1Ci also touts a transient-perfect, first-order crossover and small baffles to eliminate undesirable reflections and diffractions. The result: Imaging, transparency, and soundstaging that redefine what's possible in Model 1Ci's class. Every pair of Model 1Ci speakers comes with support bases for easy setup.
"[1Ci] nails the musical fundamentals better than some speakers I've heard that cost 20 times as much."

Nothing Sounds Like Vandersteen: Made in the U.S.A., Filled With Cutting-Edge Technology
Richard Vandersteen's namesake company is synonymous with loudspeaker superiority. The legendary high-end company continues to advance cutting-edge technology. Vandersteen is responsible for making dozens of innovations – minimal-baffle cabinets, bi-wiring, and resonance-reducing spiked feet among them – a reality. Before leaving Vandersteen's California factory, each U.S.A.-built speaker goes through rigorous testing and sophisticated analysis to ensure consistency. Music Direct is honored to carry the entire Vandersteen line, in which every speaker offers tremendous accuracy, natural musicality, and dimensional purity.
Advanced Woofer Features Cast-Metal Basket for Increased Accuracy, Cleaner Sound
Active components used in Model 1Ci combine classic strength and durability with innovative design and construction. The woofer uses the same type of cast-metal basket used in costly esoteric loudspeakers. The cast-metal basket's inherent rigidity and superior vibration resistance increase cone movement accuracy and reduce sympathetic resonances for cleaner, more natural sound. A filled polycone is used to insure high stiffness, superior internal dampening, and greater neutrality than metal alloy, woven plastic, or treated paper cones. The stiff, low-weight polycone resists flexing under all drive conditions for lower distortion and increased detail. The Model 1Ci's transmission-line port extends bass response while operating much closer to the ideal than any of the more conventional ported or passive designs.
Dual-Chamber Metal-Alloy Dome Tweeter for Smooth Response
A dual-chamber metal-alloy dome tweeter improves range and linearity. It is critically damped to extend the high frequencies past audibility without the excessive ringing associated with open or underdamped metal dome tweeters. The specific alloy used for the dome is chosen for its superior strength and resistance to break-up compared to common fabric and plastic domes. The quality materials and advanced features of Model 1Ci's tweeter result in smooth, accurate response throughout the audible range.
Transient-Perfect, First-Order Crossover Network for Optimal Signal Integrity
Model 1Ci's crossover is a transient-perfect, first-order network designed to preserve the phase integrity of the original sound. It is compensated to allow the drivers to operate in absolute phase with each other while maintaining flat amplitude response. This gives Model 1Ci more precise imaging and a more stable soundstage than conventional two-way speakers using out-of-phase drivers. The crossover's computer grade components (including film capacitors in the signal path) are hand-soldered on a double-sided, plated-through PC board for enhanced consistency and reliability.
Sound-First Construction Extends to Baffles and Enclosures
The baffles holding the drivers on Model 1Ci are as small as possible to eliminate virtually all of the early reflections that affect dynamic speakers with conventional flat or low diffraction baffles. Reducing both early reflections and edge diffraction improves imaging and enhances openness and transparency. Model 1Ci's enclosure is constructed of MDF, a pressure-formed material that effectively resists vibration and controls cabinet resonances. Broad spectrum, low-Q resonances are controlled to cancel rather than become additive. To insure consistency, each speaker is FFT analyzed for correct response and its performance is compared to a model reference prior to leaving the factory.
