The Pro-Ject RPM-1 Carbon is chock full of innovations and enhancements: A low resonance chassis supports a newly-designed inverted platter-bearing which uses an ultra-hard ceramic ball for greatly reduced rumble. A super-quiet DC power supply smoothly feeds an outboard 15VAC motor for superior speed stability. The S-shaped carbon-skinned tonearm is entirely new and some clever extras make the RPM-1 a tremendous value with an ultra-stylish look.
The new S-shaped tonearm is made using a complex 3-step process of heat treatment and almost 1500 psi of pressure to bond a composite skin of carbon fiber and resin to an aluminum tube. This process greatly strengthens the arm tube, maximizing internal damping and reducing resonances to a minimum. The high level of precision and excellent damping also makes this new tonearm compatible with a broad array of MM and MC cartridges.
Additional features new to the RPM-1 are an ingenious magnetic anti-skating mechanism which reduces the drag and fiddly nature of more conventional spring-loaded and suspended-weight designs. The counterweight is now TPE-damped which reduces resonances along the arm, resulting in greater tracking ability and sharper focus.
In the USA, the RPM-1 Carbon is supplied with a pre-mounted Sumiko Pearl MM cartridge.
