Belgium's premier doom/sludge/post-metal outfit Amenra's massive sound unfolds itself in its full potential on glorious vinyl. Producing huge walls of sound, Amenra have often been compared to metal stalwarts like Neurosis, Isis and Pelican, but their confounding and compelling sound that mixes surrealist melody and warped subtleties with churning rhythms, pummeling riffs and crushing dynamics stands on its own. Recorded in an old chapel in the Belgian Ardennes, their monumental 2012 slab Mass V was the band's first studio effort to come close to their heavy live sound. To Amenra, aesthetics are not merely supplementary to the musical experience but essential to it, and for Mass V, they hit their high-water mark. Mixed by Billy Anderson and featuring a guest appearance by Scott Kelly (Neurosis).
