Wilhelm Kempff was a German pianist and composer known especially for his interpretations of the music of Ludwig van Beethoven. He recorded the complete collection of Beethoven's piano ensembles and based on this, he is regarded as one of the main representatives of the German tradition during the 20th century and as one of the greatest pianists of all time. Kempff's qualities are especially intense on this excellent recording of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas, recorded between 1951 and 1956. Kempff's unbeatable transparency and clarity in the articulation are captured here vividly.
