Original Chic Mix of 1980 Smash Available on Vinyl for the Very First Time!
In the Spring of 1980, the new album from superstar Diana Ross, Diana, was delivered to Motown by writer-producers Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, the hit-making geniuses of Chic and the dance classics "Le Freak" and "We Are Family." Diana became a #1 R&B/#2 pop platinum smash; "Upside Down" and "I'm Coming Out" were huge hits from the album. A new Diana Ross, in jeans, T-shirt and slicked back hair, was bigger than ever. Except that the released album was not the mix delivered to Motown. It was rejected and remixed by Motown's in-house team in a more close-miked, laid-back style. Now the rarest of Motown's rare grooves makes its vinyl debut. The original Chic mix with Diana's gutsy vocal attack up front was a Motown myth until its inclusion in the Diana: Deluxe Edition in 2003. It's right where it belongs here, on vinyl – and colored double vinyl, to boot!
