By any standard whatsoever, Electric Light Orchestra is one of the most remarkable success stories in rock history. Consider just the facts: ELO has sold over 50 million records worldwide, and continues to be a remarkably popular catalog. Between 1972 and 1986 Jeff Lynne wrote and produced 26 Top 40 hits in the UK and 20 in the US, including 20 Top 20 smashes in the UK and 15 in the US. With ELO, Lynne brought the world a different sound that remains modern, relevant and influential to this very day. 1981's Time saw Lynne and Co. back in the conceptual arena with a synth-pop album about a time traveler taken to the year 2095. Reminiscent of Alan Parsons Project and Wings era releases and more electronically focused than previous efforts, Time yielded the hit singles "Hold on Tight" and "Twilight" and is regarded as an influential cult classic by retrofuturism fanatics and trailblazing bands like the Flaming Lips and Daft Punk.
