Celebrated Istanbul, Turkey-based jazz drummer Ferit Odman, a former Fulbright Scholarship winner, offered up a tribute to Tadd Dameron on his acclaimed third effort as a leader, 2015's all analog recorded Dameronia With Strings. The remarkably sensitive played session by Odman, Terell Stafford, Peter Washington and Danny Grissett, both as a band and ace soloists, is bolstered here by a well-balanced, swinging string sextet and beautiful arrangements by David O'Rourke. It gives us the chance to remember Dameron's influential approach to jazz as an orchestrator too and just like Philly Joe Jones did with his Dameronia project, Odman takes us on a beautifully nuanced journey.
