Description

The diverse sounds presented on Frank Stokes' Dream: The Memphis Blues 1927-1931 range from the harmonica solos of Noah Lewis to the pastiche of ragtime and blues favored by artists like Furry Lewis, Tom Dickson and Frank Stokes which epitomizes the 'Memphis Sound'. Yet there is no prototype Memphis guitarist, for the city drew its musical strength from its rural outskirts. No single artist came to dominate Memphis music, as did Charlie Patton the Delta or Tommy Johns the blues of central Mississippi. Also appearing here are Pearl Dickson, Will Weldon, Memphis Minnie & Kansas Joe and Cannon's Jug Stompers.
