Legendary November 1971 Grateful Dead gig, broadcast live on KSFX-San Francisco, available on vinyl for the first time across three 2LP volumes! Keyboardist Keith Godchaux had just joined the Dead fold in mid October '71 as the replacement for an ailing Pigpen who was unable to undertake the rigors of touring. The group was re-energized by this new intake of talent, and the brace of home-turf shows performed at San Fran's Harding Theater during the weekend of November 6-7 were rarely bettered at this juncture in the Dead's career. The 500 seat Old Harding was a much more intimate venue for the group at the time as most of their local shows were either at Winterland or at the Berkeley Community Theater. Volume 1 features the majority of Set 1 including performances of "Truckin'," "Sugaree," "Jack Straw," "Tennessee Jed" and "Cumberland Blues."
