George Harrison Covers EP Reissued with Redesigned Cover Art & Bonus Bob Dylan Cover Recorded During the Original 2001 Session
A few days after George Harrison passed away in 2001, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James was moved to record this six-song EP of Harrison covers, paying tribute to a man that he never met, but with whom he felt a special connection. The tracks have a serene quality that mourn the loss of a legendary spirit while celebrating his enduring influence. On the EP, James performs beautiful renditions of four cuts from Harrison's classic album All Things Pass as well as two of the Beatles tunes that he penned.
These six tracks have a raw, minimalist feel – featuring little more than James's vocals and acoustic guitar. With all the space, the room in which the tracks were recorded truly serves as another instrument in the mix, creating an ethereal aura for a backdrop. This new ATO Records reissue includes redesigned die-cut jacket cover art and a bonus track – James' cover of Bob Dylan's "If Not For You," which was also recorded in the original 2001 session.
"...I have been a fan of The Beatles since early childhood...but it wasn't till sometime in 99 that an old pal turned me on to "All Things Must Pass" and I quickly became even more enamored with the gaiety, beauty and majesty of all things George Harrison. He always seemed to be a beacon of good light unto the world...I will always look up to and see him as a prime example of the healing power of music...The following are a selection of George's songs I recorded back in 2001 a few days after he passed that were moving me so very much at the time..." - Jim James
