Under the tutelage of Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth), L7 managed to up the ante in both the songwriting and production departments on their third album, Bricks Are Heavy, and it resulted in the group's breakthrough record and a runaway hit single with "Pretend We're Dead." L7 was often associated with the then raging grunge movement (even though they were from L.A.) and with abrasive, sledgehammer guitar riffing rockers like "Wargasm," "Slide" and "Everglade" it's easy to see why. However, the group also flexes their feminist and Riot Grrrl muscles here as well with acerbic cuts like "This Ain't Pleasure" and "Diet Pill," making the well-rounded album much more than just some alt-rock coattail rider. First domestic release on colored vinyl for this early-90s alternative classic!
