Night Bats and White Dresses are two EPs from Portland, OR based band Loch Lomond that have never before been pressed on vinyl. The song "Wax & Wire" from the 2009 Night Bats EP became a bonafide viral hit in 2010 when included at the top of an extreme sport biking video seen over 40 million times. The White Dresses EP, originally released in 2012 has never been available in the US - only as an import. Now both EPs will be available on vinyl together on one LP.
Night Bats captures the band at its most creative with a directness and pop sensibility merely hinted at previously. The EP kicks off with "The Ghost of an Earthworm" and "Night Bats," two joyous and shimmering pop gems. Up next is "Spine (MMIX)," a fresh and dramatically different reading of an old fan favorite. Batting cleanup is an ethereal cover of the classic Bee Gees ballad "Holiday." Closing things out is "Wax & Wire," a dynamic sonic triumph.
Utilizing the mixing skills of Portland's musical cognoscenti Tony Lash (Elliot Smith, Dandy Warhols), Kevin Robinson (Viva Voce) and Douglas Jenkins (Portland Cello Project)), White Dresses contains material just as strong as any track from their 2011 album Little Me Will Start A Storm. Bold, unconventional arrangements peppered with glorious harmonies and ambiguous lyrical themes, Loch Lomond is as subtle as they are inventive here.
