Analog Done Right: MaiGroup Metamorphosis LP Features Stunning Original Music, A-List Guests, and Audiophile Sound Distinguished by Tonal Purity and Black Backgrounds
Led by virtuoso bassist Mai Leisz, and featuring memorable guest appearances by multi-disciplined luminaries Bill Frisell and Charles Lloyd – as well as folk icon David Crosby – MaiGroup's shape-shifting Metamorphosis carries jazz fusion into the future while nodding to its rich past. Co-produced by multi-instrumentalist Greg Leisz (who also plays on the album and happens to be Mai's husband), the 2019 original work further impresses with audiophile-grade sonics courtesy of the LP's dead-silent surfaces and astute recording qualities. Distinguished with spectacular balances, wide-ranging dynamics, front-to-back soundstages, focused images, and a purity of tone that brings the instrumental colors to the fore, this is analog done right. And it happens to spotlight a musician who deserves a far bigger stage.
Estonia-born and raised, Leisz is renowned for her melodic style and fluid versatility that witnesses her seamlessly move between pop, folk, rock, country, jazz, and blues. After a chance meeting with Jackson Browne in 2015, she relocated to Los Angeles and found herself performing with Browne, Crosby, Joan Baez, Jim Keltner, Seal, David Foster, and others. In the time since, she's received a national scholarship for the Royal Swedish Music Academy, a scholarship from Alice Babs Jazz, and a nomination for Jazz Cat Newcomer by Swedish Radio.
