Two Original Albums
Nicknamed 'Bags', Detroit born vibraphonist Milt Jackson was one of the permanent members of the Modern Jazz Quartet, famous for his blues-heavy improvisations. This release reissues two Jackson 10-inch LPs. Wizard of the Vibes combines four tracks he did with the Modern Jazz Quartet (plus Lou Donaldson on alto sax) in 1952 with three tracks done with Thelonious Monk and Art Blakey in 1951. Three Jackson originals are featured, including his signature composition and jazz standard, "Bags' Groove." The self-titled album that forms side B features tracks recorded by the Milt Jackson Quartet (1951) and includes Monk's 'Round About Midnight', as well as five Jackson originals.
