This collector's edition reissue includes the long unavailable album Odetta at Carnegie Hall, originally released on the Vanguard label in 1960. It was recorded live at that New York venue on April 8, 1960 with the material ranging from traditional folk numbers, ballads and lullabies to prison work songs and grandstanding spirituals. As a result of this long player, Odetta began to be talked about in the same vein as some of her heroes – greats like Bessie Smith, Lead Belly and Mahalia Jackson. All of these live recordings feature support from Bill Lee on upright bass (father of film director Spike Lee) and Odetta's also joined on the last three numbers by the Choir of the Church of the Master, conducted by Dr. Theodore Stern. Comes complete with two bonus tracks, captured live in 1962: "Ox Driver" and "Santy Anno."
