One of the monuments of 20th-century recording history was the great German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau's traversal of all the Franz Schubert lieder suitable for male voice. His companion in this awesome venture was pianist Gerald Moore. The historic collection was recorded over a period of six years (1966-72); and this Winterreise, from August 1971, is generally acknowledged as one of his highlights.
