Formed in Ellensburg, Washington circa 1985 by Mark Lanegan (vocals), Gary Lee Conner (guitar), Van Conner (bass) and Mark Pickerel (drums), the Screaming Trees came out of the same fertile Seattle scene that birthed bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, although they always remained more of a cult act in comparison. Produced by Jack Endino (Nirvana, Hole, Mudhoney), 1989's Buzz Factory served as the group's final full-length effort on Greg Ginns' SST Records before joining the Sub Pop label. True to its title some of Buzz Factory's finest moments come in the form of the ringing anthems "Where the Twain Shall Meet" and "Black Sun Morning."
