Call To Confirm Colored Copies Are Still Available
Ornament & Crime is a lost Self album that their fans have been waiting thirteen years for. Originally recorded in 2004 with producer Mario C (The Beastie Boys, Jack Johnson), the album was shelved as their label was sold and absorbed. Ornament & Crime is finally getting its long awaited release on colored vinyl with all new artwork, lyrics and liner notes.
Self is the project of Matt Mahaffey, a Murfreesboro, TN-based singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist who began writing songs at age 4 and became a professional drummer at 12. During high school and college he became proficient at home recording, setting up a studio in his basement and recording demos, some of which eventually became part of his debut album, 1995's Subliminal Plastic Moves.
The album, an electric blend of power pop, hip-hop and samples, earned Self a devoted following and tour dates with big alternative acts like Garbage, 311 and Cracker. Self continued to release LPs on Dreamworks and Spongebath but Mahaffey's focus started to shift into co-writing, playing and producing for other artists including Beck, Pink, Liz Phair, Butch Walker, The Sounds, Lupe Fiasco and Tenacious D.
