200g Vinyl Reissue Mastered from the Original Analog Tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio
James Isaac Moore aka Slim Harpo epitomized the swamp blues style and just as Louis Armstrong forever tethered jazz to New Orleans and Clifton Chenier fixed Lafayette as home to zydeco, Harpo established Baton Rouge as a base for the blues. His remarkable legacy includes such landmark hits as "Rainin' in My Heart," "Baby Scratch My Back" and of course the immortal "I'm A King Bee." The latter even had Mick Jagger proclaiming, "What's the point in listening to us doing 'I'm A King Bee' when you can hear Slim Harpo do it?"
Rolling Stone's Pete Welding described Harpo as "a stylist who's carved out his own niche, and within the relatively narrow confines of that approach he's unbeatable – and of course, immediately recognizable...the emphasis is on forceful, direct rhythm, tight and simple arrangements (even when horns are used) that work beautifully with Slim's sly, laconic singing and harmonica playing and, above else, feeling."
The Original King Bee (The Best of Slim Harpo) covers his formidable career and includes the aforementioned classics plus further signature fare like "Got Love If You Want It," "Shake Your Hips," "Te Ni Nee Ni Nu" and "Mohair Sam." This well-deserved Analogue Productions 200g vinyl reissue was mastered from the original analog tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, pressed at Quality Record Pressings and comes housed in old-style tip-on heavyweight cardboard jacket packaging from Stoughton Printing.
