New Stereo 200g 45RPM 2LP Pressing Mastered from the Original Master Tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio
Analogue Productions continues their definitive Beach Boys reissue program with first time 200g 45RPM 2LP pressings of Pet Sounds (in both Stereo and Mono) and Surfer Girl (in Stereo). Each title has been mastered from the original master tapes or best source available by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, pressed at Quality Records Pressings and comes packaged in a beautiful deluxe "old school" Stoughton tip-on jacket.
For the early part of the Beach Boys' career, all of their singles were mixed and mastered and released only in the mono format – they didn't release a single in stereo until 1968. In those days, hits were made on AM radio in mono. And the mono of those times worked well for Brian Wilson – famed co-founder, songwriter and arranger – who suffers from partial deafness. Still, apart from Surfin' Safari, which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. All of the newer stereo mixes on AP's remastered reissues (The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), The Beach Boys' Party, Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile) were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.
The groundbreaking Pet Sounds (1966) is undoubtedly The Beach Boys' most acclaimed album and arguably the most influential pop record of all time. This is the album that took the group and music in general to a whole different level, both in terms of composition and production. Landmark songwriting ("Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows," "Caroline No," "Sloop John B"), incredible vocal harmonies and majestic arrangements coalesce to form a rich collage of sound which overflows with artistic depth and pure emotion.
"It was Pet Sounds that blew me out of the water...I love the album so much. I've just bought my kids each a copy of it for their education in life. I figure no one is educated musically 'til they've heard that album." - Paul McCartney
"All of us, Ginger (Baker), Jack (Bruce), and I consider Pet Sounds to be one of the greatest pop LPs to ever be released. It encompasses everything that's ever knocked me out and rolled it all into one." - Eric Clapton
