While awaiting the conceptual sequel to their 2007 classic Precambrian, The Ocean offers up a two-sided 12" picture disc pressing of a brand new studio re-recording of album opener "Rhyacian," with their current lineup. The B-side has an instrumental version of the same track. Few albums still feel relevant, fresh and contemporary-sounding 10 years after their original release. Precambrian is such a record. One of the band's most musically mature and versatile collections, Precambrian is distinguished by complex yet intimate songwriting, huge orchestrations, subtle electronic textures and immense harmonic and dynamic density. With guest appearances by Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Old Man Gloom), Nate Newton (Converge, Doomriders), Tomas Hallbom (Breach), Eric Kalsbeek (Textures) and musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Precambrian remains a career-defining milestone for the band, and still a fan favorite.
