A.C. Newman Get Guilty on LP
Second Solo Album from The New Pornographers Leader
2009's Get Guilty, the second solo album from A.C. Newman, leader and songwriter behind The New Pornographers, finds the pop songsmith in a decidedly more upbeat and guitar-heavy form than normal. Assisted by an awesome assembly of guest musicians, including Mates Of State, Nicole Atkins, and champion all-round drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk, Ryan Adams, R.E.M., The Mountain Goats), he has created an irresistible set of layered pop songs of great melodic and lyrical depth. As is always the case with Newman's songs, each track unrolls to reveal second and third choruses, additional sections, singalong payoffs and words and concerns of tremendous ironic and humorous obliquity. From the rousing opener, "There Are Maybe Ten Or Twelve," to "Submarines of Stockholm" which could have been an outtake from Electric Version, to the radio track "Palace At 4 AM," Get Guilty just keeps on giving!
