Babe Ruth is a British progressive rock band formed by guitarist Alan Shacklock in 1971. They're rhythmic, bluesy, guitar orientated sound is capped off by the blistering vocals of Jenny Haan and rounded out by Chris Holmes (keyboards and organ), Dave Punshon (piano), Dave Hewitt, (bass) and Dick Powell, (drums). Recorded at Abbey Road Studios by Tony Clark and produced by Shacklock and Nick Mobbs, the band's debut album First Base was originally issued in 1972 and stands as their biggest success, both in terms of popular and critical acclaim. Anchored by their signature classic "The Mexican" which includes a theme by western soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone, additional highlights include the powerful rock number "Wells Fargo," Frank Zappa's "King Kong" and "Black Dog."
