Big Mama Thornton was one of the greatest blues shouters of all time, rightfully inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1984. Her music has influenced the likes of Janis Joplin and Elvis Presley, both of who would later cover songs originally recorded by Big Mama. In Europe was recorded on October 20, 1965 while Thornton was part of the Folk Blues Festival revue that was touring the continent at the time. The essential blues set finds her in top form on standout numbers like "Little Red Rooster," "Unlucky Girl" and "Hound Dog" backed by an ace band consisting of Buddy Guy (guitar), Fred Below (drums), Eddie Boyd (piano, organ), Jimmy Lee Robinson (bass) and Walter "Shakey" Horton (harmonica). Essential blues in mono!
