The Biggest One Drop Anthems 2015 - Various Artists on 2LP
After a four year hiatus, Greensleeves resurrects the popular compilation series The Biggest One Drop Anthems. The approach for 2015 was a little different. The 13-track-set was helmed solely by legendary Jamaican producer Clive Hunt who has commandeered roots reggae classics with some of Jamaica's finest artists including The Abyssinians, Peter Tosh, The Wailers and Jimmy Cliff. He also produced international hits for Stevie Wonder, the Rolling Stones and Grace Jones.
VP Records matched Hunt with selected foundation and new roots artists to forge The Biggest One Drop Anthems 2015. The album features new exclusive tracks from Jah 9, Iba Mahr, Jah Vinci, Raging Fyah, Richie Spice, Randy Valentine and Yahsha. The series also features three inspired cover versions: Luciano's adaptation of Rod Taylor's "His Imperial Majesty"; Ikaya's take on the Steel Pulse anthem "Worth His Weight in Gold (Rally Round)" and Etana's "Stepping Out of Babylon," originally recorded by Marcia Griffiths.
Musicians on the project include drummers Kirk Bennett and Anthony Watson, guitarists Lamont 'Monty' Savory and Winston 'Bopee' Bowen, bassists Aeion Hoilett and Danny 'Axeman' Thompson and keyboardists Robbie Lyn and Franklin Waul. The album artwork was created by renowned graphic artist, Tony McDermott.
