Birds And Arrows Edge Of Everything on LP
Birds and Arrows have been an integral part of the North Carolina Triangle music scene for going on 10 years. Andrea and Pete Connolly define their sound through intertwining vocals and impeccable collaborative song craftsmanship.
Their seventh release, Edge Of Everything, serves as the follow up to 2013's Coyotes and was produced and recorded by Chris Stamey of the dB's with a wonderful cast of musicians that includes: Robert Sledge (bass), Matt Douglas (sax), Eric Haugen (guitar, pedal steel), Kyra Moore Holt (banjo, fiddle), Jonathan Durlam (guitar), Roger Gupton (bass), Omar Ruiz-Lopez (fiddle) and Skylar Gudasz (vocals, flute).
The new release reflects on the challenges of finding a balance between remaining connected to family and those that are close to you while trying to build personal identity and the search for individual purpose. The couple explores the tension of this balance in songs like the titile track and in the country ballad "Trainwreck." They also touch on the difficult decision many couples face about the possibility of starting a family and the fears connected to that decision in "Wolf."
Edge Of Everything is full of both specifically North Carolina imagery as well as western desert imagery. "We wrote these songs before we'd even imagined our move to Tuscon." Andrea adds, "But subconsciously we ended up including desert imagery in our creative process. As it runs out, our creative psyche was ahead of us."
