Charles Mingus Tijuana Moods/Mingus Ah Um on 180g Import 2LP
Two Original Albums Plus Bonus Tracks from Oh Yeah
Recorded in 1957, but not released until 1962, Tijuana Moods features one of Charles Mingus' greatest groups with Shafi Hadi on alto, Clarence Shaw on trumpet, Jimmy Knepper on trombone and Bill Triglia on piano. Reminiscent of Mingus' late '50s style, the tight solos and incredible rhythms absolutely dominate the extended tracks and it's no surprise that Mingus himself considered it the best recording he ever made.
Arguably Charles Mingus' greatest recording, 1959's Mingus Ah Um features standout performances by John Handy, Booker Ervin, Jimmy Knepper, Horace Parlan and Dannie Richmond and many classics that would not only become evergreens in the bassist's repertoire but jazz standards alike including "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," "Better Git It In Your Soul," "Fables Of Faubus," and "Jelly Roll."
This double shot of Charles Mingus' career highlights Tijuana Moods and Mingus Ah Um from Vinyl Passion comes complete with a pair of bonus tracks from Oh Yeah.
