Christian Death Catastrophe Ballet on Limited Edition LP
Legendary gothic, death rock and post-punk pioneers Christian Death will have two of their trail-blazing early albums - Catastrophe Ballet and Ashes - reissued on limited edition vinyl in celebration of the band's 30th anniversary. Few albums from any generation can stand the test of time, let alone become the archetype of genre and measure by which all others are judged.
Christian Death's landmark second album Catastrophe Ballet (1984) is such a recording and a cornerstone of the gothic/deathrock/post-punk/early punk scenes. Led by charismatic singer Rozz Williams and guitarist Valor Kand, Christian Death broke the ranks from their L.A. punk rock surroundings here, and eschewed raw anger for an elegant, romantic and hypnotic form of art not heard before.
In 1985, Christian Death extended its shadow over the nascent gothic genre with the release of its third album, Ashes. Continuing where the epic Catastrophe Ballet left off, Ashes furthered the band's burgeoning legacy with its keen sense of romance and dramatic flair. The disturbingly dark and deeply atmospheric songwriting of the two main protagonists, Williams and Kand, remains to this day some of the band's most elegant and incisive. Williams unquestionably delivers some of the finest vocal performances of his all-too-short career.
Both out-of-print on vinyl for over 25 years, these legendary albums can now be enjoyed once again in all their sonic glory on the vinyl format courtesy of Season of Mist!
