Cliff Martinez - Solaris - Original Soundtrack Recording on Picture Disc LP
Original Soundtrack Issued for the First Time on Vinyl
Also Available on 180g Black Vinyl & White Colored Vinyl
In December 2013, Invada will release on vinyl for the very first time, Cliff Martinez’s cult original score to the 2002 film Solaris directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring George Clooney. Hailed as one of the most influential modern soundtracks, this is a hugely important project for Invada, and they are proud to be continuing their relationship with Martinez after releasing the Drive soundtrack last year.
Soderbergh on Martinez’s pivotal role and his score, "I relied on it not only to unify the film emotionally, but to import actual narrative information." Martinez adds that, “Solaris...is one of the few soundtracks of mine that I can still stand to listen to. I also think it was a score that made the greatest contribution to the film for which it was written."
Previously only released on CD, composer Cliff Martinez's (Drive, Spring Breakers, Contagion, Traffic) strikingly atmospheric score to Solaris will be released by Invada in three configurations including customized 180g black vinyl, white colored vinyl and picture disc - each with its own unique sleeve art.
Described by BBC Music as "A brooding slow, meditative work” and a musical journey that "leaves the listener floating free" by Soundtrack.net, Solaris is a thoughtful, evocative and highly seductive score that still fully resonates with the listener more than a decade after it was first released.
Soundtrack culture is a growing phenomenon. A genre that’s been widely overlooked (outside of specialist areas) for a considerable time is now, thanks to the continued work of labels like Invada (run by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow alongside label boss Redg Weeks), very much on the ascent and impossible to ignore.
More consumer awareness for these incredible works is also resulting in record numbers of sales. The soundtrack album is no longer reserved for cult aficionados, now it is becoming a ‘must have’ piece of art. Cliff Martinez’s soundtrack for Solaris is one of these works.
