Since their formation in 1989, New Orleans underground metal-sludge legends Crowbar have profoundly influenced an entire generation of metal acts the world over. Fueled by the down-tuned sludge of the Melvins and the over-the-top aggression of Peter Steele's Carnivore, the band's sound was labeled doom-core by the European press shortly after the release of their 1991 debut Obedience Thru Suffering.
In celebration of the band's 25th Anniversary Back On Black Records is reissuing two classic gems from Crowbar's heralded back catalog - 1998's Odd Fellows Rest and 2001's Sonic Excess in its Purest Form - on vinyl in 2015!
Right from the slow and melodic instrumental "Intro" to "Planets Collide," through to the brilliant riffs of "December Spawn," fifth album Odd Fellows Rest proves to be a must have for any metal fan. Further tracks like "...And Suffer" as "One or It's All in the Gravity" also retain the heavily Sabbath-influenced, downtuned form of heaviness that Crowbar have become distinguished for. Its melody, creepy, atmospheric riffs and bass lines create a sound which is heavy in a different, more extreme manner.
