Christian Cantamessa's AIR, starring Norman Reedus (Walking Dead) and Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy, Blood Diamond), is about two custodians who struggle to hold onto their sanity living in an underground bunker with cryogenically frozen people meant to re-populate society after a nuclear war.
Composer Edo Van Breemen's Original Motion Picture Score is timed for release with the film, due out in August 2015. Van Breemen is known for his work on Afflicted (2013), The Backward Class (2014) and This Bleeding Heart (2013). Pressed on numbered limited edition colored vinyl!
"It was very intense narrative scoring," notes Van Breemen. "I was working with the director on a daily basis. Because the movie only has two characters, the music had to imply a lot of the emotion that was going on. It was kind of like a subtext. We'd watch a scene and talk about the emotional beats that we'd have to hit."
He adds, "The director was really adamant about us developing particular themes. The movie has its own theme, some of the characters have their own theme. It's pretty musical. There are some scenes where it's super '80s. There's basically no percussion through the whole thing. We worked with pulses instead of percussion."
