Late Night Tales: Four Tet on 2LP
Classic 2004 Series Release
Late Night Tales invites the world's best artists to delve deep into their music collections to create the ultimate "late night" selection. The series features expertly curated mixes by MGMT, Friendly Fires, The Flaming Lips, Metronomy, Groove Armada, The Cinematic Orchestra, Belle & Sebastian, Jamiroquai, Midlake, Arctic Monkeys and many more top artists. Each Late Night Tales offering also includes an exclusive cover version by the artist and a spoken word story. Late Night Tales: music and stories worth staying up for.
Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet's contribution to the renowned series of compilations redefines the word "eclectic." From sun-kissed 60s psychedelia (Manfred Mann, would you believe?) to cosmic jazz, to skull-crunchin' hip-hop (Gravediggaz) and Terry Riley's tape-loop cut-ups, Four Tet produced a seriously entertaining and even educational take on the chillout comp - as well as a peek at the myriad influences that are at work in Hebden's own music.
Additional highlights include the indescribable beauties of Linda Perlhac's "Parallelograms" and Koushik's woozy funk workouts. All in all, a rare treat composed of, er, rare treats. Also includes Four Tet's exclusive cover version of Jimi Hendrix's "Castles Made Of Sand." Originally issued in 2004 this mix has gone on to be a classic Late Night Tales release. Thoroughly recommended.
