Gene Ammons Boss Tenor on Limited Edition 200g LP
Prestige Stereo Reissue Series from Analogue Productions!
Cut from the Original Analog Master Tapes by Kevin Gray & Pressed on 200g Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings!
Also Available on Hybrid SACD
For nearly a quarter-century, tenor saxophonist Gene Ammons was among the most accomplished artists in the Prestige fold. Whether leading, or partaking in, one of Prestige’s jam sessions, immersing himself in the organ-dominated blues and gospel grooves that came to be called “soul jazz,” or digging deep for impassioned ballads, Ammons was forever versatile and consistently masterful.
This 1960 date for the label finds Ammons as the lone horn fronting a rhythm section that includes Tommy Flanagan (piano), Doug Watkins (bass), Art Taylor (drums) and Ray Barretto (congas). Featuring a program that encompasses the blues, ballads, Charlie Parker's "Confirmation," and Eddie Heywood's "Canadian Sunset," Ammons is indeed the 'Boss' of his instrument and then some here!
