Glenn Branca Symphony No. 1: Tonal Plexus on Limited Edition 180g 2LP
In the last 40 years Glenn Branca's work as a composer has included music for experimental rock bands, large ensemble instrumentals for electric guitars, 16 symphonies for both electric instrumentation and acoustic orchestras, chamber ensemble pieces for a wide variety of instrumentation (both electric and acoustic), an opera, a ballet, choral works and music for film, dance, theater and installation art. His ensemble has done hundreds of performances all over the world.
Subtitled Music in Four Movements for Multiple Guitars, Keyboards, Brass and Percussion, Branca's landmark Symphony No. 1: Tonal Plexus is his first symphony and arguably his finest work to date. The four movements were originally recorded on July 18-19, 1981 at the Performing Garage in Soho, NYC and mixed at Wharton's studio. Includes performances from Theoretical Girls' Wharton Tiers and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo.
