Good Old War Broken Into Better Shape on 180g LP + Download
Broken Into Better Shape is the fourth full-length release for Good Old War and the first that finds the group working with outside songwriters. The trio originally started working on the new album after wrapping months of touring in support of 2012’s Come Back As Rain. During this initial phase, drummer Tim Arnold decided to leave the band to join his fiancé in Atlanta who was pregnant with the couple’s first child. Keith Goodwin and Dan Schwartz found themselves with half an album and decided to take the opportunity to experiment working with outside writers and producers.
They spent a little time in NYC working with Emile Haynie (fun., Bruno Mars, Lady Antebellum) which resulted in the album’s soaring “Fly Away” and for the hook laden lead single, “Tell Me What You Want From Me,” they found themselves in LA writing with Zimbabwe-born urban producer T-Collar. In the fall of 2014, the duo headed to Nashville to begin working with producer Jason Lehning (Alison Krause & Union Station, Mat Kearney, Dolly Parton), where they were able to round out the songs with the help of a terrific group of musicians and writers that he assembled.
The result is a 10-song album that is a grand collaboration and finds Good Old War pushing their musical boundaries to the limit. While expanding their sound on Broken Into Better Shape, the album is still signature Good Old War with the harmonies and melodies that fans have come to love over the years.
