Gordon Lightfoot If You Could Read My Mind on Limited Edition 180g LP
Mastered by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios & Captiol Mastering in Hollywood, CA
Integral in helping to define the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and '70s, iconic Canadian singer/songwriter Gordon Lightfoot has blazed a musical career that has spanned six decades and he has received every honor his home country can bestow an artist. No stranger to Lightfoot's rich catalog, Friday Music is pleased reissue his 1970 classic If You Could Read My Mind, which was originally released under the title Sit Down Young Stranger, but retitled months later to capitalize on the success of the hit title track.
Lightfoot's excellent working trio with Red Shea (guitar) and Rick Haynes (bass) is augmented here on several numbers by famous friends like Ry Cooder (bottleneck guitar, mandolin), John Sebastian (autoharp, harmonica, guitar) and Van Dyke Parks (harmonium) while Randy Newman and Nick DeCaro also provide sympathetic string arrangements on a couple of cuts. With exception to a sterling cover of Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee," the remainder of the acoustic-based 11-track affair is comprised of all Lightfoot originals and per usual proves to be timeless '70s gold.
