Grateful Dead Europe '72 Volume 2 on Limited Edition 180g 4LP

Follow-Up Volume to Acclaimed First Release the Equivalent in Every Way: 20 Completely Different Songs from What Many Deadheads Consider the Band's Finest-Ever Tour

Astounding Fidelity: Superior Sound Another Reason Why This Tour So Beloved

Originally released to coincide with the release of the massive 72-disc Europe '72: The Complete Recordings box set, Europe '72 Volume 2 is designed as a digestible immersion into what many Deadheads consider the finest tour the Grateful Dead ever embarked upon. Intentionally comprised of songs that did not appear on the acclaimed first volume (issued nearly 40 years) ago, this follow-up compendium is every bit the equal of its predecessor. A must-own for both diehards and casual listeners, Europe '72 Volume 2 sounds utterly fantastic on this 180g 4LP pressing.

Archivist David Lemieux hand-selected 20 tracks that capture the Dead in all its glory. Arranged to mimic what could have easily been a single live Dead show during the era, they encompass uptempo, Jerry Garcia-led shuffles ("Bertha"), slow-burn ballads ("Loser"), guitar-driven rock n' roll ("Bertha," "Beat It On Down the Line"), and myriad covers sent up with the band's traditional playful wrinkles ("Good Lovin'," "Not Fade Away"). Of course, the Dead's legendary psychedelic jamming prowess is also on display via a tremendous "Dark Star" and epic "The Other One." So, too, are the group's chemistry and what would be the final performances of Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, who delivers a highlight reel of memories courtesy of songs such as "Chinatown Shuffle" and "Next Time You See Me."

Sonically, the analog edition Europe '72 Volume 2 represents the pinnacle of concert-album fidelity. Renowned for its state-of-the-art sound, the Dead team of engineers worked wonders on the tour, lending even more reason why this jaunt is so closely treasured by longtime fans. Topping it all off is the updated artwork by iconic cartoonist Stanley Mouse and a booklet. This is as good as it gets.
