Grieved Grieved on LP
Grieved recorded their first full length debut on Prosthetic Records in the summer of 2015 with producer Lewis John's at The Ranch (Funeral For A Friend, Gnarwolves, Sharks, Rolo Tomassi). The heaviness of the guitars is a nod to fellow countrymen Raised Fist and brings the cold, dark streets of Stockholm right into their debut. Grieved are loud, raucous, harsh, and they have something to say.
With a sound containing both fast, pounding riffs and heavy down-tempo sections, Grieved's lyrics range from self-contempt to brutal honest truths these kids play negative but honest music. The tone is set for in the opening track 'Opaque" with the screams of Marcus Lundqvist, "Opaque black light, white noise. Let the world swallow you whole!", clinical in its execution and its delivery. The intensity of the guitars is emulated by Lundqvist's passionate, honest and truly powerful vocals.
As with their previous EP Ageing and split releases with Runes alongside the band's debut mini album Samaritans, Grieved has definitely matured with their debut self-titled LP. Physically, but most of all musically with the addition of Andreas Malm as second guitarist. There's still so much angst pumping in the veins of these 10 tracks, but the five Swedes managed to create an emotionally driven anger. Guitars develop distorted killer riffs and the rhythm section has never sounded so sick, but somehow they created a more cerebral yet passionate song cycle here as well.
The result is Grieved, a pure dark mid-tempo hardcore sickness in the vein of Cursed, well crafted, passionate and with a killer production. The band's take on the darker side of hardcore is raging and rewarding in equal measures!
