Jake Bugg Jake Bugg on Import LP
From the heart of Nottingham, England comes the precociously talented singer/songwriter Jake Bugg. Discovering music through a Don McLean song he heard whilst watching the Simpsons, his is a very modern folk tale. The young artist has listed his hobbies as "drinking, smoking, and music" and cited his influences as Donovan, Johnny Cash, Oasis, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles.
This, his critically acclaimed 14-track eponymous debut was originally issued in the U.K in October of 2012, rising to the #1 spot on the strength of a handful of well-received singles including "Trouble Town," "Country Song," "Lightning Bolt" and "Two Fingers." Newly signed to Mercury, his refreshingly honest tales of growing up and friendship, sharply observed, are sure to make him the troubadour to watch in 2013 and beyond.
Bugg has already toured with such notable acts as Noel Gallagher and The Stone Roses, and similar to his British brethren he isn't afraid to speak his mind, accusing Mumford and Sons of looking like "posh farmers with banjos," while saying boy band One Direction are, "there to look good. Music-wise? I assume they don't really have a clue...[they] must know that they're terrible."
"Jake Bugg is only 19 years old, but his mix of folk and rock evokes an older tradition. On his debut album, Jake Bugg, the British singer-songwriter saunters, strums and opens up across 14 unhurried tracks. Opener "Lightning Bolt" stomps along with lively electric guitar, while the single "Two Fingers" weaves and bobs with carefree confidence that betrays the hurt Bugg leaves behind." - RJ Cubarrubia, Rolling Stone
"If this debut album - rife with uncommon wit, insight and melody - is testament to anything, it's that his small, unremarkable world is about to get a whole lot bigger." - Barry Nicolson, NME
