Jimmie Rodgers The Rough Guide To Country Legends: Jimmie Rodgers on Limited Edition 180g LP + Download Card
Jimmie Rodgers was the ‘Singing Brakeman’, a Mississippi boy who used to work the railroads, done good. With his trademark yodel, he brought so-called hillbilly music into the mainstream. In a life as colorful as the songs he sang, the ‘Father of Country Music’, rose from obscurity to create a new level of international stardom for American music before his tragic early death from Tuberculosis.
A key influence on the likes of Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Van Morrison and Howlin' Wolf and the first performer inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1961, this Rough Guide highlights Jimmie's musical versatility from blues classics and moving ballads to jazz and Hawaiian influenced songs.
The 12-song set features remastered versions of Jimmie Rodgers' most famous songs including "Mule Skinner Blues," "Waiting For A Train," "T is For Texas" and "T.B. Blues" among others. 180g vinyl pressing with accompanying download card from the World Music Network.
