Jimmy Giuffre 3, 1961 is a 1992 ECM Records release which compiles the clarinetist's two famous 1961 trio recordings - Fusion (March 3) and Thesis (April 8) - which he originally recorded with Paul Bley (piano) and Steve Swallow (double-bass) for Creed Taylor and Verve. Remixed by Jan Erik Kongshaug and Manfred Eicher three decades later, ECM proved to be the perfect label to reissue these excellent recordings comprised largely of restful originals from Giuffre and Carlo Bley, then-wife of Paul.
