Recorded live in concert in a bullring in Bilbao, Spain, Joan Baez's singular 1988 work Diamonds And Rust In The Bullring is comprised of 12 songs, six performed in English, five in Spanish and the crown jewel "Txoria Txori" of the set in Basque. In addition to her own title cut " Diamonds And Rust," which kicks off the album, Baez offers up stirring takes of Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry," Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat" and the Beatles' "Let It Be" plus a Spanish reinterpretation of Sting's "They Dance Alone (Gueca Solo)" retitled "Ellas Danzan Solas."
"This record was made in a bullring in Bilbao, Spain, in 1988. It is dedicated to the Mayor and the people pf Bilbao, who came out between thunderstorms to see me perform. The song in Catalan, "Txoria Txori" is about a sweet little bird...I want to thank Pasku who taught it to me, and thank the Bilbao public for singing it so beautifully." - Joan Baez
