Johnny Cash The Sound Of Johnny Cash/Now There Was A Song! on 180g Import LP
Vinyl Passion offers up a double shot of the Man In Black with the two original albums The Sound Of Johnny Cash and Now There Was A Song! together in one vinyl package. These two albums from the early 1960's showcase Johnny Cash's development as a Columbia Records recording artist. When these albums were released, Cash had left the rockabilly mode behind and was becoming a country superstar.
The earlier LP Now There Was A Song! was issued in 1960 as a kind of concept album. Lacking any Cash originals, the repertoire is drawn from other country singers including Hank Williams, George Jones, Bob Wills and Marty Robbins. Standout tracks include "I Couldn't Keep from Crying" and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry."
The Sound Of Johnny Cash was released two years later and contains only two Cash originals, but two of its other songs, "Delia's Gone" and "I'm Free from the Chain Gang Now," have become Cash favorites, in part because he revived them for new listeners in his American Recordings project with Rick Rubin.
