Julianna Barwick Sanguine on LP
Julianna Barwick's breathtaking 2006 debut release Sanguine is a collection of 13 loop based miniature gems recorded in a bedroom. Lacking definable lyrics, it displays her choice of melodic vocal overdubs and vocal percussion. Sanguine formed the basis of Barwick's sound and exhibited her approach to songwriting: spontaneously improvising and recording immediately. Originally self-released on CD in December 2006 on Barwick's Florid Recordings, a vinyl edition was then issued in 2012 with M'lady's records.
"Gorgeous & immersive on first listen & never loses its sparkle. She has tapped a vein of expression that is rich & powerful & affecting." - Pitchfork
"Her ethereal multi-tracked harmonies have the devotional quality of gospel choirs, and the oddball allure of Björk or Yoko Ono." - The New York Times
