Kevin Devine Put Your Ghost To Rest on 2LP
Kevin Devine, known as one of the most prolific singer-songwriters in the indie-rock community, has always placed premium importance on the messages his songs relay. As his most recent work, the Bulldozer and Bubblegum LPs show, Devine's lyricism often ranges from intensely, intimately personal to very outwardly political.
Put Your Ghost To Rest is Devine's fourth studio album. In retrospect, PYGTR (along with Devine's third LP, Split The Country, Split The Street) showcase an interesting era for the artist - not quite the balanced act he became with 2009's Brother's Blood, but considerably further along in his development than his first two releases in 2002 and 2003. It also shows the continued embrace of more overtly political songwriting from Devine.
PYGTR was produced by Rob Shnapf and released on October 17, 2006 through Capitol Records (Devine's first and only major label release). The producer would work with Devine again on 2013's Bulldozer, but at the time he held a particular importance to Devine's creative output because he had frequently collaborated with Elliott Smith, who Devine cites as a major influence.
Bad Timing and Devinyl Records are reissuing Put Your Ghost To Rest as a special 10 year anniversary pressing of 1,250 copies. The partnership follows the labels working together to bring other releases from Devine such as Brother's Blood, Matter of Time and the Devinyl Splits Series to life on vinyl.
