Liars Liars on Limited Edition 180g LP
It's just like the Liars to build stylistic momentum and then turn on a dime as they do yet once again on their self-titled fourth album, originally issued in 2007. Following-up the high-concept fare of 2004's They Were Wrong, So We Drowned and 2006's Drums Not Dead, the band went for a more stripped down and unbridled approach here which comes off as the Liars version of a pop album, albeit lacking no less in ambition than their previous outings. Co-produced with Jeremy Glover, Liars still finds the band incorporating multiple musical styles, but with a refined songwriting focus that ultimately shows the band in its best light. Look no further than the blistering rock of album opener "Plaster Casts of Everthing" and the electro-clash work-out of the ensuing "Houseclouds" for prime examples.
