45th Anniversary EP with New Duet Version featuring Marvin Gaye & New Motown Artist BJ The Chicago Kid ; Unplugged "Coffeehouse" Mix of the Original Version; Plus Original Mono Single Versions of "What's Going On" and "God Is Love"
Special 10" vinyl EP released in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the classic album What's Goin' On. The album contains a new duet version featuring Marvin Gaye and new Motown artist BJ The Chicago Kid. The funky track, sounds fresh in a new mix that uses the original instrumental parts and adds only new vocals by BJ. The mix is by by John Morales, of M+M Mix Productions fame. Additionally there is an unplugged "Coffeehouse" mix of the original Marvin Gaye version, using bare parts, particularly a formerly buried acoustic guitar, from the original session – again, no overdubs. It was mixed by renowned engineer Russell Elevado, best known for his work with D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z, et al. The top side of the 10-inch includes the original mono single versions of "What's Going On" - with a different intro and an infamous false fade, neither of which appear on the album version – and "God Is Love," which is a completely different take than the released album version.
