Not many bands can claim to be as influential as Mercyful Fate. As one of the early purveyors of true metal, the band's impact is felt far and wide; from the new wave of black metals' Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu Borgir to international metal gods Megadeth and Metallica. 9 (1999) is the seventh and final album from the Danish heavy metal legends. With production duties handled by Kol Marshall, 9 marked the welcome return of a more streamlined and brutal sound not heard since their monumental 1984 effort Don't Break The Oath. As King Diamond put it: "the melody is there without sacrificing the brutality." Featuring a band line-up of Diamond (vocals), Hank Sherman (guitar), Mike Wead (guitar), Sharlee D'Angelo (bass), and Bjarne T. Holm (drums).
