It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing. And Ray Charles’ Genius + Soul = Jazz swings like the dickens. Boasting arrangements from Quincy Jones and support from Count Basie’s ensemble, the primarily instrumental affair rides on Charles’ intoxicating Hammond B3 organ riffs.
Genius+Soul=Jazz is primarily made-up of instrumental tracks such as the the Top Ten hit "One Mint Julep," but Brother Ray also graces the collection with the two signature vocal cuts "I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town" and "I've Got New For You" for good measure.
Originally recorded at the Van Gelder Studios in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, the album has been cut from the original analog masters on this exquisite 200g LP pressing made at Quality Record Pressings. The original tape boxes included the notes in braille! Most importantly, however, the sound on this version is exquisite. A must for every fan of R&B and soul.
